The Modern Pocket Knife

The Duval is our first front-flipper, combining the best features of two classic knife silhouettes into a sleek and functional new form. Traditional gentlemen's knives require two hands to open and close, and they don't generally lock. With its front-flipper opening style and it's frame-lock design, you get the best of both worlds: the ease of opening and security of a traditional frame-lock knife, combined with slimness, symmetry and beauty of a classic gentlemen's pocket knife.

THE MODERN GENTLEMEN'S POCKET KNIFE

The Best in Materials and Design.

The Duval uses American-made Crucible s35vn stainless blade steel, and has a frame of 6al4v titanium. The modified sheepsfoot blade shape is as useful as it is beautiful. The main pivot uses ceramic ball bearings for an incredibly smooth action. Scale options include rosewood and OD green micarta.

With the Duval we took cues from mid-century design and combined them with the very best materials to create a modern-day gentlemen's pocket knife that has all of the features of a traditional frame-lock design.

    Look Elsewhere

This is the second knife I've bought from the James Brand. The first one was a Carter which I use all the time and have never had any problems with. This one though was a disappointment. When it arrived the wood scale on one side already had a crack in it. Really not convinced on the quality for something that costs $300. Along with being extremely hard to open, I would look at other products.

Great Knife, Not Worth The Price

While great aesthetic and components is a must in todays age, parts to price ratio must be somewhat reasonable. Here we have a dainty titanium tool, w/ S35VN. While still a great knife, the size and build are just not worth the $300. Simply paying for the brand name and looks, over quality and integrity. I’d recommend spending the extra $100-$150 to purchase some of the more well known folding knife pioneers.

    Damascus version

Putting it as nice as possible, this was a bad decision on my part. I received the knife in a timely manner, however be disappointed with the blade so called Damascus. I have two other knives from your company James Brand that are in Damascus, but the Duval looks cheap. End of story.

Once again, my wife was right!

I wanted to get a knife that honored my grandfather after passing earlier this year. I had narrowed my selection to three knives and asked my wife her opinion. She said, “You have to get the Duval because you are Tom.” This of course being a reference to Robert Duvall’s role as Tom in the Godfather film trilogy.

She was right and the Duval has proven to be the perfect knife for me. Sharp, beautifully crafted and yet a little different from a knife that the other men in my family would select.

It was a bonus to discover that the knife was being shipped from Carlsbad, CA. a place I spent much of my childhood surfing and skating in the summer months. Of course I would gravitate toward a blade designed in a place heavily steeped in skate and surf culture.

For me this is the perfect knife, it’s been in my pocket since I received it and it is an item I will cherish for a lifetime and pass on to my son when I no longer need it.

    Keep up the great work,

    Michael
